What vehicle takes short trips, starts and stops very often, and always knows how much range is required?
Answer: The Mail Delivery Truck.
Used in urban areas, at low speeds and for short and mapped distances, these vehicles are ideal for electric conversions, and the US Postal Service is starting another project, this time to revive it’s aging fleet. Bravo USPS!

As a former President of the Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association in 2009, I was afforded an opportunity to test Chevy’s new Volt while in town for the Olympics. This is Chevy’s new “Range Extended” Electric Car debuting … let’s just say sometime in the future.
Test drive results to follow, gallery of photos are here.

This video is truly a tease, I almost feel bad posting it! It’s only 24 seconds long, but it gives you a taste of what’s to come.

Shot just prior to removing my internal combustion engine (ICE) to make way for my new electric motor. The engine is a Turbo 2.0L (SR20DET) from a Nissan S13. Imported from Japan and installed by hand myself in 2001, I’ve had a lot of fun times with this engine.

The almighty Nissan Skyline GT-R. A car that is very dear to me personally and professionally, as a hardcore Nissan enthusiast and automotive importer.
This car was banned from Racing because it was too good and won too many consecutive races. Now it’s seen the light and recognized the advantages available, and the next generation of GT-R is rumoured to be a hybrid. Still AWD, still turbo, but with an extra 160HP and energy recovery to boost fuel economy toward 30MPG. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m going to be going to an event for climate change awareness this weekend and wanted to share this video. It’s a really good example of what can be done when people, from politicians to consumers, are willing to make the right choices.
PBS Special on Copenhagen and Project Better Place.
They are setting an example for the world to follow.

I was reading a post by a fellow EV enthusiast who raised the concerns over EV safety and their lack of “noise”. Figured I would throw in my 2 cents.
I find the issue raised against the silent nature of electric cars to be genuinely humorous. For one, it’s a problem easily solved, and I wish we could say the same for war and pollution.
Second, it’s a common sense issue, if people aren’t paying attention, bad things will happen.
Anyone who’s driven a Mercedes, a Lexus, or a Bentley can attest that even Gas powered vehicles can be whisper quiet.
My Electric car is far from Silent, Read the rest of this entry »
