I’ve heard people say they are concerned that the advent of Electric Vehicles will crush the oil & gas companies, kill off the automotive service industry and put mechanics out of work. It’s time I address this issue and throw in my 2 cents.

Did the computer change things? Yes it did, but no one cried for the guys making typewriters.

What about cell phones? How many people still have multiple land-lines in their homes, if any home service at all?

Times change, and business that do not adapt are left behind and deserve to fail to make way for the next wave. But for some reason instead of helping to “build the new ship”, our governments have chosen to pour our money into the “sinking ship” we’re currently stuck on. Regarding maintenance and fueling costs…do any of you LIKE spending all that money? And think where it’s going. Most people spend about 25% of their income on transportation related costs, think what that $ could be doing if we kept it here in our own economy, with our own utility companies and EV makes providing high quality employment for our own citizens. The economic stimulus would be ridiculous if we kept that money at home.

Electric cars will be so much EASIER to work on than internal combustion engines (ICE). Seriously, I’m no mechanic, I’m not an engineer, yet I’m building my own EV. I’ve done both now, and from personal experience, the EV is waaaaay easier. Hooking up wires is much simpler than hoses, manifolds, turbos…the list gos on. I’m not saying an EV conversion is easy, stuff isn’t available off the shelf yet, but if it was, it would be easier than ICE.

If anyone else wants to do the same conversion I did, it would be a joke for them now. I plan on helping to develop conversion kits for more suitable vehicles so people don’t have to go through what I did.
